Fish Variety in the Waters
around Oksvoll
The coastal waters around Oksvoll are home to an impressive variety of fish species, offering anglers unique fishing experiences.
Cod is especially sought after, known for its impressive size and excellent taste. The powerful pollock is also a popular catch – fast and strong, it puts up a real fight on the line.
Alongside these predators, coalfish, ling, and tusk can also be found in these waters. The latter two are best caught by bottom fishing using natural bait.
A true highlight for many anglers is the halibut (Norwegian: kveite) – a majestic deep-sea giant that demands both patience and skill. In our fishing grounds, you have a real chance to live this angling dream! The current minimum size for halibut retention is 84 cm or 7.2 kg (as of 2025). Specimens over 20 kg should be released, as the best meat quality is found in fish below this weight, and doing so helps preserve the species and support sustainable fishing. Halibut over 2 meters in length must be released by law.
For lovers of refined table fish, the area also offers redfish – found in deeper waters and prized for its firm, aromatic meat.
